Public Health for the 21st Centure: The Prepared Leader
Author: Rowitz
Public health has moved to the forefront of national interest and scrutiny in the light of present-day events. Public health professionals are now regulars in all forms of media, something unheard of just a few years ago. The issues are well known-bioterrorism, SARS, West Nile Virus-and they are enough to panic a population without skillful leadership. Public Health for the 21st Century: The Prepared Leader examines public health leadership in terms of emergency preparedness and specific skills and tools. As modern-day threats force leaders to look at how they address disasters and drive communities to prepare themselves, this book provides tools and real-life cases to hone management skills to prepare agencies to deal with large scale events.
Features: Addresses the important issue of health preparedness in the wide rather than narrow view of emergency preparedness and response, Looks closely at the changing face of public health as a result of the events of 9/11 and the need to reenergize our communities to look toward the new directions of public health in the future, such as response strategies and emergency preparedness, Presents case studies that include actual stories as well as interviews with public health leaders in which the leaders answer five questions related to the content of several chapters of the book, Addresses the leadership skills that the new vision of public health requires.

1 comment:
The leadership of volunteers is
a subject of which relatively little is written. With so many people
involved in volunteer activities, several chapgers of this book might be
helpful.
